what are solar panels?

How Solar Panels Work

SOLAR PANELS

Solar panels harness the sun's power to generate electricity and provide clean power for your home

Inverter

The inverter converts the electricity produced by the solar panels into an energy current that is used by your home and the power grid

Electric Panel

This is the nerve center in charge of distributing the electricity throughout your home and to the electric grid of Chevrat Hachashmal.

Power Meter

This is installed with the electric panel and is used to measure how much energy is being produced

On-grid System

Israel only allows on-grid systems, which means חברת החשמל must approve connecting your solar panels to the electric grid in your area.

Net Metering

Your electricity bill is calculated by how much electricity you consume and the monthly output from your solar panels.

FAQS

All your questions-answered

The process to getting solar panels installed can be summarized into 3 steps:

  1. A Sela representative comes to your home and photographs your roof with a drone. The rep. will then present you with an estimate of how many panels you can fit on your roof and an estimate of your initial investment and monthly earning potential.
  2. Once you would like to move ahead with the process, Sela will guide you through filling out the paperwork and bureaucracy to get approved by חברת החשמל and join the local power grid. This approval requires a small deposit which is paid directly to חברת החשמל. To get approved takes about 1-2 months.
  3. While your request is being processed, we have our architects and engineers draw up a more precise rendering of your roof so you can get an exact quote of how many solar panels can fit on your roof and the exact total cost.
  4. Once you get approval from חברת החשמל, we schedule a day for your installation!

This depends on how many panels can fit on your roof and what your current electricity bill is. In general the return on investment is between 5-7 years whilst revenue is continually generated for 25 years.

Today Israeli banks are offering 100% finance for Solar panels as they look at it as a risk free investment. The initial cost for your solar panels can be financed in a way that will require a minimum deposit, and still bring in a monthly return on your investment. contact us to learn more!

No, you do not need to may income tax on the money you save and earn from your solar panels. This is because the Israeli government wants to encourage the use of solar energy because it’s better for our environment.

We recommend that you clean your solar panels twice a year. You’ll know that your solar panels need to be cleaned when you see on the app that their energy output has gone down slightly.

If you already have home insurance, your solar panels can be easily added on to your existing insurance policy. It’s best to discuss this with your insurance agent.

Before we install your panels, we need to get you approved to join the electric grid in your area. This process takes about a month, but cannot be started until your home has tofes 4.

Solar panels are an extra source of income and savings, so having solar panels on your home will increase it’s resale value!

Yes. We recommend installing solar panels on a roof with a minimum of 100 square meters.

If you own an apartment in an apartment building, you cannot install solar panels on the roof of the building. If you own the entire apartment building as a commercial property, solar panels can be installed, and will have a very high earning potential.

We strategically place the panels on your roof to maximize their exposure to sunlight throughout the year. You will see less energy output during cloudy or overcast winter days, and you will see an increase in energy output during the sunny spring and summer months. Luckily, Israel is a country with pretty mild and short winters!

Your panels will convert sunlight into energy, and your inverter will convert the sun’s energy into the type of electricity used by your home. If you use less electricity, the energy generated will be used by the power grid, and חברת החשמל will pay you for the electricity you generated.
